Malaria Bites-a night of reggae music-will raise money to purchase mosquito bednets in Africa. The rainy season is fast approaching and we need bednets fast to save children from harmful mosquito bites (bites that can potentially mean malaria). Our goal is to raise $12,000. $12,000 = 2000 lives saved!

What:
Live music featuring two awesome bands:
The Ark Band -- "jammin' reggae to unite the world in peace"
Kaikpai & The Rydim Afrique World Beat Band -- "the world's best beat of African music and African dance"

African Art Auction -- featuring works by local and African artists

Singles Auction -- Columbus' hottest singles will be on the block, paired with gift certificates from some of Columbus' hottest restaurants!

Why:

Malaria, a deadly disease transmitted by mosquitoes, kills 1.7 million people a year.
The disease is derived from infectious mosquitoes, preying on society.
Malaria is transmitted by these mosquitoes carrying the disease. The malaria-carrying mosquitoes only bite at night when defenses are low. When a person is bitten by an infected mosquito, he or she acquires the malaria disease.

Solution:
Insecticide Treated Bednets

Sleeping under an insecticide-treated bednet protects people from mosquitoes.
Protecting people from mosquitoes means protecting people from malaria -- a simple way to save millions of lives.
